When you come in for your biannual dental cleaning and exam, Dr. Steven Rodriguez may recommend that you have dental X-rays taken. This is because a basic exam cannot spot everything. There are areas in the mouth, like between the teeth, that the naked eye can’t see. Because of dental X-rays, issues like cavities can be detected, diagnosed, and treated early, before the issue becomes more serious.

Diagnostic Tool

Dental X-rays are a valuable tool to our office because they allow our dentist to see between and inside the teeth. The tip of the tooth roots and the bone underneath the gums, which aren’t visible to the naked eye, can be easily inspected using dental X-rays. This diagnostic tool is often used as a part of routine dental exams. However, they can also be used to help diagnose a specific dental issue that you may be having.

How Often Are They Needed?

Our dentist will decide how often you need to have dental X-rays taken based on your oral health. We will often suggest that new patients have X-rays taken so that we can access their current dental health.
